Clayton Zelin

Camp Director/ Coach

Bio

Clayton Zelin returned to Georgia Southern Men’s Soccer in 2024 and is the Associate Head Coach, helping usher in a period of sustained success, national recognition, and elite player development. Since his return, the program has emerged as one of the nation’s rising forces, combining competitive results with a clear pathway to the professional game.

Across the 2024 and 2025 seasons, Georgia Southern consistently ranked among the national Top 25, reaching a program-high No. 6 in the national polls. The Eagles posted a standout 13–4–1 record in 2025, reinforcing their presence on the national stage and reputation as one of the most competitive programs in the country.

That team success translated directly into individual accolades and professional advancement. During this period, Georgia Southern produced two MLS SuperDraft selections, including Ricky Louis, who became the first Generation Adidas signing in program history. Louis also earned All-American honors, while multiple Eagles received Sun Belt All-Conference recognition, highlighting both top-end talent and roster depth.

Prior to returning to Statesboro, Zelin spent four seasons (2019–2023) as Associate Head Coach at North Florida, where he played a key role in building one of the ASUN’s top defensive programs. During his tenure, UNF earned a Top 25 road victory, posted the conference’s lowest goals-against average in back-to-back seasons, and advanced to its first ASUN semifinal since 2015. The Ospreys allowed a league-low five goals in conference play in his first season and recorded more shutouts than the previous two seasons combined. Zelin also helped guide multiple players to ASUN All-Conference and All-Freshman honors, including Cormac Begley, Jovoney Brown, and Joaquin Acuña.

Before North Florida, Zelin was part of the coaching staff at Denver, where he helped the Pioneers reach their first-ever No. 1 national ranking and a No. 3 national ranking in 2017. During his time at Denver, the program made eight NCAA Tournament appearances, captured two Summit League regular-season titles, and produced more than 10 All-Conference players, four all-region selections, and an All-American. Zelin was also part of the Summit League Staff of the Year and contributed to Denver leading Division I men’s soccer in team GPA, while producing a CoSIDA Academic All-American and a Senior CLASS Award winner.

Zelin’s coaching background also includes stops with Real Colorado, Real Salt Lake (AZ), and Phoenix Rising FC, where he was part of the 2017 National Championship staff, winning league, state, regional, and national titles.

A former Georgia Southern student-athlete, Zelin played NCAA Division I soccer for the Eagles, serving as a team captain and earning All-Tournament Team honors. He continued his playing career professionally with MLS Reserves (Colorado Rapids), PDL, MASL, and USL before transitioning into coaching.

Zelin holds his NSCAA Premier License and UEFA A License and has a proven track record of developing players who have gone on to U.S. National Training Centers, regional teams, Division I programs, and professional organizations.

He resides in Fernandina Beach, Florida, with his wife, Erin.
